SARTA Microgrant Program

SARTA’s Microgrant program is designed to provide funding and support to local community theatres and performing groups with limited financial flexibility. Offering a max of $500, our microgrants are designed to help fund costume rentals, royalty payments, costs associated with hosting an event or workshop, and minor improvements to physical spaces.

As SARTA’s position in the community has shifted, we’re constantly seeking ways to support and promote community theatres and performing groups. We believe that microgrants will allow us to foster community theatre development and engagement, as well as form stronger bonds with our local performing groups, while encouraging growth and local outreach.

Eligibility and FAQ's

Got questions? We’ve got answers.

Eligibility

  • Who is eligible for a microgrant?

Theatres or performing groups within the greater Sacramento Valley region with an annual operating budget of under $50,000 who need a small, one-time project funded up to $500 are eligible to apply.

  • How many grant applications can I apply for?

Theatres or performing groups are eligible to apply for ONE grant per granting round; while we understand that organizations may have multiple projects needing coverage, we want to ensure that everyone is given an equal opportunity. Submitting multiple applications for the same theatre or performing group will result in ALL applications submitted to be disqualified.

  • Are individuals eligible to apply for the Microgrant program?

We are not offering microgrants to individuals at this time; however, for youth under 18, we offer our YES (Youth Education Scholarship) program to encourage participation in theatre camps and performing events.

  • What is the selection process?

SARTA will provide application information to an independent panel of no fewer than 3 theatre community members who are not affiliated with any applicants. This panel will review applications and make recommendations to the Board based on individual applicants’ adherence to our guidelines.

SARTA will work to provide a response to all grant applicants within 8 weeks of the grant submission deadline.

Other Submission Guidelines

  • Confirm you are not a political campaign, part of a campaign, or primarily funded by a campaign
  • Confirm you will not be using the grant to offset salary cost, general office supplies, or basic operating expenses
  • Provide an outline of the project you wish to use the funding for.
